Membership

Membership of the BAF is highly prized by those accepted into membership. As well as denoting professionalism, potential employers recognise and value the status of fencing coaches holding BAF qualifications "Associate", "Provost", "Maître d’Escrime" and "Master".

There are several categories of membership:

  President of Honour
  President Emeritus
  Vice-Presidents of Honour
  Life Members
  Honorary Members
  Masters of the Academy
  Maître d’Escrime
  Provosts of the Academy
  Members
  Associates of the Academy
  Retired Members
  Overseas Members
    
Who may apply for Membership of the BAF?

All qualified coaches may apply for membership of the BAF

Applicants require the sponsorship of either a full Master of the Academy or Maître d’Escrime (weapon specific)
BAF coaching qualification will be accepted

For holders of coaching qualifications not recognised by the AAI, the sponsoring Master (or Maitre d’Escrime) should, from their personal knowledge of the work of the applicant, recommend to the Committee whether the applicant should be accepted as an Associate or as a Member of the Academy

For holders of qualifications NOT recognised by the AAI, it shall be at the discretion of the Committee to decide on the level of membership offered to the applicant

Note: The final decision on every application to join the BAF shall remain with the Committee
