Applying for Membership of the BAF The application form for membership of the BAF may be found here The completed form should be sent to the Membership Secretary,
along with copies of relevant qualifications, the membership fee of £63.00
and the one off administration fee of £7.35 All qualified coaches may apply for membership of the BAF. For holders of coaching qualifications not recognised by the AAI, the sponsoring Master (or Maitre dEscrime) should, from their personal knowledge of the work of the applicant, recommend to the Committee whether the applicant should be accepted as an Associate or as a Member of the Academy. For holders of qualifications NOT recognised by the AAI, it shall be at the discretion of the Committee to decide on the level of membership offered to the applicant. Note: The final decision on every application to join the BAF shall remain with the Committee. For further details on how to apply for membership please contact the Secretary of the BAF.
Categories of Membership Membership of the BAF is highly prized by those accepted into membership. As well as denoting professionalism, potential employers recognise and value the status of fencing coaches holding BAF qualifications "Associate", "Member", "Provost", "Maître dEscrime" and "Master" (Maître dArmes).There are several categories of membership: Maître d'Escrime - Fencing Coaches who have passed the Diploma Examination of The Academy at one or two weapons, or those who hold equivalent qualifications accepted by the Committee. Provost - Fencing Coaches holding the Provost Certificate of the British Academy of Fencing or who have passed The Academy's Advanced Examination Written Papers and Practical Examinations in all three weapons or those who hold equivalent qualifications accepted by the Committee. Member - Fencing Coaches who have passed a British Academy of Fencing Level 2 Examination or those who hold equivalent qualifications accepted by the Committee. Associate - Fencing Coaches who have passed the British Academy of Fencing Level 1 Examination or those who hold equivalent qualifications accepted by the Committee. Retired - Members who are no longer active in coaching. Overseas - Members who have had a close relationship with The Academy and who reside abroad.
